International Conference on Sustainability Certification of Urban Areas
Jun 13 2011
Companies within the Swedish construction and property sector, municipalities and government authorities have started a project to evaluate and adapt or develop a system for sustainability certification of urban areas. We see major advantages in cooperating with other countries in the adaptation of such a certification system. The vision of the project is to create a mutual working process that engages and leads to sustainable urban development.
In the first step of the project, international systems are being evaluated for use in Sweden. Environmental certification of buildings is getting increasingly popular in Sweden and many other countries. To create urban areas that are also environmentally and socially sustainable, increased coordination between all involved parties is needed when planning an urban area. A certification system will be a useful tool in this coordination.
The project has carried out ten workshops with different themes during the spring. An evaluation will be made of whether BREEAM Communities can be adapted to Swedish conditions. In a next step, the project group also wants to evaluate other systems, including LEED Neighbourhood Development.
To share knowledge, to get inspiration from projects in other countries and to discuss future cooperation we are inviting you to participate in this international conference.
Organizers: Sweden Green Building Council, City of Malmö and The Delegation for Sustainable Cities
